Moved to L.A. and got job as an usher for CBS. In 1953 became morning
copyboy for CBS radio news bureau in Hollywood. Met my wife to be, who was
a secretary at CBS. In 1957 went to work as a writer for Paul Coates, who
was a columnist for the Los Amgeles Mirror and who was starting a syndicated nightly interview show. It was the first interview show on TV--preceding Mike Wallace. By now I was married to my wife Diane. We have been married
48 years. In 1961 we left L.A. with two little girls and came to San
Francisco. I got a job at KPIX as a morning editor. Within a year the station decided they wanted news reporters on the air. I became a reporter and- since I liked politics--they gave me all the political stories. After five years
at KPIX, I was lured over to KQED which was still doing Newsroom and gave me
a chance to have more time on the air. That all led to KRON making me an
offer I couldn't refuse. I was KRON political repoter for twenty years/ I
retired so I could have Friday lunch in North Beach. This is more than you need to know! In summary, I have a wife, two daughters, a son and five grandchildren.
